Pastor Paul continues with the series talking about finding that place to recharge. Just like your Fitbit tracks your rest, we need to understand what type of rest we get and where we go to find it.
REM SLEEP
During REM sleep, your brain activity increases, your pulse quickens, and this is where you have all of your dreams. REM sleep first takes place after you've been sleeping for around 90 minutes. Matthew 11:28-30 (ESV) 28 Come to me, all who labor and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest. 29 Take my yoke upon you, and learn from me, for I am gentle and lowly in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. 30 For my yoke is easy, and my burden is light.” LIGHT SLEEP Light sleep like this is a very important for your sleep cycles and our overall rest. It is where we spend the bulk of our time while we are asleep. Memory is "back-up" in light sleep. Exodus 33:14 (ESV) 14 And he said, “My presence will go with you, and I will give you rest.” Philippians 4:6-7 (ESV) 6 do not be anxious about anything, but in everything by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known to God. 7 And the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus. DEEP SLEEP During deep sleep, all energy goes into recharging your batteries. Your kidneys clean your blood, your organs detox, cell are replaced, wounds heal, muscle tissue builds up. Psalm 46:10 (ESV) 6 do not be anxious about anything, but in everything by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known to God. 7 And the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus. Isaiah 40:28-31 (ESV) 28 Have you not known? Have you not heard? The Lord is the everlasting God, the Creator of the ends of the earth. He does not faint or grow weary; his understanding is unsearchable. 29 He gives power to the faint, and to him who has no might he increases strength. 30 Even youths shall faint and be weary, and young men shall fall exhausted; 31 but they who wait for the Lord shall renew their strength; they shall mount up with wings like eagles; they shall run and not be weary; they shall walk and not faint. Psalm 69:3 (ESV) 3 I am weary with my crying out; my throat is parched. My eyes grow dim with waiting for my God.
